So what is it about stamps that attract you?

Welcome to our web site and the world of stamp collecting, philately. What is it that you find enjoyable about collecting stamps? Philately offers so many opportunities to expand our knowledge and to learn of different cultures, geography, history, and even languages. Through these little pieces of paper we can travel the world and enjoy the hunt and search for new items to add to our collection. When did you first encounter the philatelic bug? Who helped you along the way?
Have you ever attended a stamp show with exhibits on display? The stamp world is a vast arena with so many areas of collecting to enjoy. It’s exciting to visit a show in person and to witness such a diverse gathering of people from all walks of life. The common thread is stamp collecting. Whatever your collecting interests are, there are always new approaches, avenues and opportunities to further your knowledge. Which approach do you pursue? Will you focus on a given topic such as birds or World War II? Will you concentrate on a single country or region? Or will you collect anything that is of interest to you? What approach will give you the best experience?
When I was a child, I collected whatever interested me. Then an older gentleman and a seasoned stamp collector, Mr. Kramer, showed me that my collection would look so much better if I aligned the stamps rather than mount them in a haphazard fashion. He opened up a new world for me simply by showing me how to mount my stamps neatly.
Whether you are a beginning collector or more advanced in the knowledge and scope of your collection, there is always something new and different to pursue. For some that may mean new issues related to your particular country or thematic interests. Others find tremendous enjoyment in finding a particular stamp or set of stamps they have looked high and low to locate. What is it that peaks your interests and generates excitement in your collecting interests?
I’d like this blog to be a Mr. Kramer for you. I hope to be able to answer your questions and a source of assistance to you in your collecting endeavors.
Happy stamping to you!
